Spotify is letting you add notes to songs in your playlists

By Raymond Saw August 19, 2026

Spotify is making playlists a little more personal with a new feature that lets you add notes to the songs, podcast episodes and audiobooks you add. Called Playlist Notes, the feature lets you share the story behind a particular pick, explain why you added it to a playlist or simply leave a recommendation for anyone else listening.

The feature is being used by Spotify’s editorial team to give listeners more insight into the songs featured in some of its biggest playlists. Editors can explain why a track was selected, why it matters culturally or what makes it a good fit for a particular playlist.

On top of that, Spotify is also introducing Editor Profiles, allowing listeners to find out more about the people behind its playlists. Each profile includes an editor’s top tracks and albums, along with the playlists they contribute to.

For now, editorial Playlist Notes and Editor Profiles are rolling out to Free and Premium users aged 16 and above in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. They will initially appear on playlists including Today’s Top Hits, RapCaviar, Hot Country, All New Pop, mint and Fresh Finds Hip-Hop.

If a playlist supports the feature, you can tap Notes at the top of the playlist to see what Spotify’s editors have written. You can also tap an editor’s name next to a note to view their Editor Profile. Spotify adds that notes can also appear in the Now Playing screen, even when you’re listening to a song outside the playlist where the note was originally added.

Spotify is also bringing Playlist Notes to user-created playlists. The feature is currently rolling out on iOS and Android in more than 100 markets globally. You can add notes to tracks, podcast episodes and audiobooks in playlists that you own or collaborate on, giving you a chacne to explain why you added a particular song, share a memory associated with it or to recommend something to friends.

To add a note, open a playlist you own or collaborate on and tap the three-dot menu next to a track, podcast episode or audiobook. Select Add note, enter your message and tap Save. Anyone who can view the playlist will also be able to see your notes, with your name linking to your Spotify profile.

User-curated Playlist Notes is rolling out gradually, so you might not see it on your Spotify app just yet, but you can always update your app to get the latest features as they become available.
