1. Google Play Store to reduce service fees to 15%

In a recently released article on the Android Developer’s Blog, Google announces that they will be reducing the current service fee of 30% to 15% for the first US$ 1mil revenue every developer earns each year.

This revision of fees is set to kick in on 1 July 2021 and it is part of Google’s mission to help developers build sustainable businesses.

“With this change, 99% of developers globally that sell digital goods and services with Play will see a 50% reduction in fees. These are funds that can help developers scale up at a critical phase of their growth by hiring more engineers, adding to their marketing staff, increasing server capacity, and more.”

2. Touch ‘n Go eWallet now supports DuitNow

Touch ‘n Go joins the DuitNow ecosystem and now supports payments via DuitNow QR. What does this partnership mean to the general public?

  • With Touch ‘n Go eWallet entry into the DuitNow eco-system, consumers and merchants in Malaysia will reap the benefits of more merchant acceptance points and wider customer reach as the eco-system grows.
  • Through DuitNow QR, users can make payments from any participating Banks or eWallets’ mobile apps. Merchants would only need to display one QR Code, the DuitNow QR, to accept payments.
  • Touch ‘N Go eWallet users will soon be able to transfer funds instantly using DuitNow between their Touch ‘n Go eWallet and bank accounts as well as other eWallets.

3. Revised New Phone Subsidy from RM180 to RM300

In the latest announcment update of the PEMERKASA package, the government has decided to further increase the new phone subsidy to RM300 from the previous RM180.

Before celebrating, it is important to note that this subsidy is only applicable for BPR recipients and is expected to be implemented in early May 2021.
