1. Shopify introduces new in-app shopping experiences on TikTok

TikTok and Shopify announced that they will be expanding their existing partnership to roll out a new in-app shopping experience on TikTok. TikTok For Business account will soon be able to add a shopping tab to their TikTok profiles and sync their product catalogues to create a mini-storefront that links directly to their online store for checkout.

TikTok Shopping will bring new features that help Shopify merchants create engaging, organic content that sends consumers directly to their online store for checkout, making it easy for people to explore and buy the products they discover on TikTok.

2. Google Play Store rating improvements by country and device

To improve app ratings and reviews listed on Google Play Store, they’ll soon be separating reviews and ratings to be country and device specific.

This change is for the betterment of both users and developers alike as there are many instances where a unpleasant experience may be specific to a country or device and is not an accurate representation of the overall app performance.

  • From November 2021, users on phones will start to see ratings specific to their registered country
  • Early in 2022 users on other form-factors such as tablets, Chromebooks, and wearables will start to see ratings specific to the device that they’re on

3. Xiaomi is set to acquire DeepMotion as it ventures into the EV market

In Xiaomi’s recent Q2 result announcement, it is revealed that the the company has entered into the share purchase agreements with Deepmotion Tech Limited (“Deepmotion”, an autonomous driving technology company). The total consideration for the acquisition is approximately US$77.37 million.

As of the date writing, this transaction has not yet closed. Upon closing, Deepmotion will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Group. This will mark a significant step forward for Xiaomi into the electronic vehicle (EV) market.

4. Goodbye Mi, Hello Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO

As Xiaomi continue to grow and strengthen its footing in the global market, they’ve announced that Xiaomi’s product series “Mi” will be renamed to “Xiaomi”. This change is done in order to unify its global brand presence and close the perception gap between the brand and its products.

In order words, future product series will only be branded as Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO.

5. GAMMA launches Vaccine Certificate Verifier app

The introduction of the Vaccine Certificate Verifier’s primary purpose to combat the growing loopholes with identifying vaccinated individuals as fake vaccine certificates continue to surface.

It is reported that changes will be made to existing QR code found on vaccine certificates in the MySejahtera app so that it is only readable via the Vaccine Certificate Verifier app and not any other QR scanners.
