Sony assembled the WALKMAN, BRAVIA, and Alpha teams to build the new Xperia 1 VII

The Sony Xperia 1 VII has just been unveiled. The latest to Sony’s flagship line, the company says the Xperia 1 VII embodies the company’s DNA by collaborating with designers of its Alpha, WALKMAN, and Bravia teams.
Touted as a “smartphone with an Alpha heart”, the Xperia 1 VII features a triple rear camera system, comprising a 48MP main Exmor T sensor capable of switching between 24mm and 48mm focal lengths, a 12MP Exmor RS telephoto lens with a variable zoom range of 85mm to 170mm, and a 48MP Exmor RS ultra-wide sensor with a 16mm focal length.

These are supported by Sony’s AI camera features, including subject-tracking autofocus and Posture Estimation, which helps anticipate human movement to improve focus accuracy. A dedicated shutter button, with half-press focus lock similar to a traditional camera, is also included. Users can also launch the camera quickly without unlocking the device.
On the front, the Xperia 1 VII houses a 12MP selfie camera. The 6.5-inch OLED display aims to replicate the picture quality of Sony’s BRAVIA flagship TVs, with a Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2340), 120Hz refresh rate, full DCI-P3 coverage, and peak brightness levels making it the brightest Xperia display to date. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Audio quality has also been given notable attention, with Sony incorporating a high-performance audio circuit and redesigned signal pathways, developed together with the WALKMAN team. The phone includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, catering to users who prefer wired audio. Sony claims improvements in sound imaging and audio detail compared to previous Xperia models.

Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which Sony states can last up to two days on a single charge. The phone is available in three colours — Slate Black, Moss Green, and Orchid Purple — and features a tactile glass finish on the back for added grip.
Sony has yet to announce official pricing for the Xperia 1 VII in Malaysia, but it’s worth noting that the product page is already up on Sony Malaysia’s official website.
