Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: Thinner and lighter with upgraded FlexWindow cover screen

At Galaxy Unpacked, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, Samsung also showcased their latest clamshell flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Unlike the other two, which got major upgrades either to its overall form factor or its cameras, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is more of another refinement by Samsung, rather than any big changes.

For starters, the Flip 8 is now thinner than ever before, measuring 13.1mm thin when closed and 6.1mm when flipped open. Samsung has also managed to shave off eight grams from its predecessor, bringing it down to 180g.

That being said, there’s no major changes to the overall design, with a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display pushing a 1048 x 948p resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 2600nits and a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus 2 over it. It’s the same hardware-wise, but in terms of software Samsung has given it more widgets and AI tools that you can use directly off the cover screen, such as Now Brief and Gemini Intelligence.

As for the main display, you’ll find a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel pushing a FHD+ resolution, along with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2600nits in a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 gets their in-house Exynos 2600 system-on-chip, a 2nm flagship class processor, mated to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. There’s also OneUI 9 out of the hood, skinned over Android 17, along with a guarantee of 7 years of software updates.

As for its cameras, the main camera is a 50MP, f/1.8 shooter flanked by a 12MP, f/2.2 ultrawide. The main camera now gets Horizontal Lock too for more stabilized video, while the FlexCam experience has been improved for better selfies with the rear camera. If you do need to use the selfie camera though, it’s a 10MP, f/2.2 shooter tucked into the main display.

Keeping the lights on is a 4,300mAh battery with support for 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging, as well as 4.5W reverse wireless charging. Other features of note include stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Samsung DeX support as well as an IP48 dust and water resistance rating.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 starts at RM5,399, with pre-orders already available in Malaysia. For more information on the Galaxy Z Flip 8’s pre-order promo, you can click here.
