Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Passport-sized foldable, optimised for content
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been reimagined. The taller foldable of yesteryear still exists of course, rechristened as the Z Fold 8 Ultra, but the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now a passport-sized foldable, better optimised for content consumption.
The star of the show is of course its new displays, or rather, its new display ratios. The Galaxy Z Fold 8’s cover screen is now in a 10:16 aspect ratio, almost Blackberry-like in a way, while once unfolded you’ll be greeted by a 4:3 main display. This main display gives it a very natural look for users when reading eBooks or long form articles, while still being able to make better use of the screen real estate to output videos.
As for the size itself, you’re looking at a 5.5-inch WUXGA+ display on the front while the main display is a 7.6-inch QXGA+ screen. Both are Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels, with 120Hz adaptive refresh rates, are capable of 3000nits of peak brightness and the main display gets a layer of anti-reflection coating too.
That’s on top of their Flex Titanium technology that Samsung claims will further minimise display crease. It combines a titanium-alloy film with an enhanced titanium plat to help strengthen the display, better absorb pressure and impact as well as reduce crease visibility over time. As for its size, when folded it measures 9.7mm thin, while unfolded it goes down to just 4.5mm. It also only weighs 201g, which Samsung says is their lightest Z Fold yet.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy system-on-chip, the same overclocked 3nm flagship mobile platform found in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It comes with 12GB of memory for the 256GB and 512GB models, while the top spec configuration gets 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage. You’ll also find OneUI 9 skinned over Android 17 here, with up to 7 major Android upgrades for it, as well as a bunch of AI tools and features.
As for its cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 gets a surprise downgrade, with Samsung only giving it 2 rear cameras this time around. It consists of a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera flanked by a 50MP, f/1.9 ultrawide, while both displays come with a 10MP, f/2.2 selfie shooter in each display.
Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 4,800mAh battery with support for 45W wired fast charging and 20W wireless charging, as well as 4.5W reverse wireless charging; Samsung claims up to 26 hours of video playback for the Z Fold 8. Other features of note include an IP48 dust and water resistance rating, stereo speakers, Samsung DeX support as well as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
