Genesis GV60 Wins Award For 2nd Consecutive Year

By Timothy Teoh July 28, 2024

J.D. Power released its 2024 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, which states that the Genesis GV60 won the top small premium SUV segment. It topped the study in six categories: including powertrain, driving comfort, interior, driving feel, getting in/out and setting up/starting.

“At Genesis, we design our products with the customer top of mind,” said Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. “GV60 delivers on this commitment with its sleek silhouette, dynamic high-efficiency motor and host of advanced technologies.”

Genesis, the luxury arm of Hyundai, released the GV60 in 2022 as the company’s dedicated electric model. Its coupe-like silhouette and interior inspired by classic Korean architecture make it a very appealing vehicle for someone looking for a leftfield offering.

Powered by a 360kW electric motor with 700Nm of torque, the GV60 is an all-wheel-drive small SUV that is meant to meet city commuting needs. It has a 77.4kWh battery pack that, when fully charged, allows the vehicle to cover a distance of 466km (WLTP).

The J.D. Power U.S. APEAL Study examines new vehicle owners’ assessments of their experience with their new vehicle after 9 days of ownership. Said study provides data on customer experience on vehicle design, performance, safety, usability, comfort and several other areas.

It’s one of several awards snapped up by recent EVs proving that they can stand shoulder to shoulder with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In addition to this, their lower maintenance requirements make them a sensible replacement for one’s aging car.

EVs have received lukewarm reception all over the world due to the limited range on a single charge as well as the lengthy duration needed to fully top up the battery packs. Many people are convinced that these are compromises they can’t live with.

Granted, these are valid points for now. But the ever-growing EV charging network around the country as well as the ability of modern EVs to rapidly charge under 30 minutes, make these minor inconveniences at best. And with the rapid development of EV technology, it’s only a matter of time before the drawbacks of EV ownership become non-issues.
