Fake ‘Maybank’ phishing email currently circulating; Maybank issues warning to Malaysians
Maybank has cautioned users of a fake email pretending to be from the bank itself that’s currently circulating among Malaysians.
The warning was issued on Maybank’s official Facebook page and X account, in which they urged customers not to “click on any suspicious links sent via emails, chats or SMSes.”
The fake email purporting to be from Maybank claims that the user has had their accounts locked for security purposes, and that they should verify their accounts by clicking on the fake ‘Login’ button included in the email. This will likely lead you to a separate page where scammers will attempt to trick you into sharing your login details and credit card information.
The fake email also states that users who do not verify their accounts within 72 hours will have their accounts frozen.
Maybank reminds users that they will never share any links for users to click on, nor would the bank ask for a customer’s personal banking details.
They also urge users to never click on suspicious links, never share your bank’s username and password, and never share your OTPs (one-time password) and TACs (transaction authorization) code with anyone.
