Xbox CEO Asha Sharma kills Xbox Copilot AI, reshuffles her leadership team

Xbox has been going through some big changes recently, and it seems that there are even more changes in store. New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has overhauled the executive leadership team at Microsoft’s gaming division, bringing in folk she’s worked with previously, while also announcing that they’re killing off Copilot on console.
Starting off with the executive changes, Sharma has brought in several former CoreAI employees to join her at Xbox; Sharma herself led the CoreAI team before joining Xbox. Jared Palmer, former CoreAI VP of Product is now Xbox VP of Engineering; Tim Allen, former CoreAI VP of Design is now Xbox design lead; Jonathan McKay, former CoreAI Head of Growth now leads Xbox growth and data; while Evan Chaki is a former CoreAI general manager who will be part of a new team in Xbox working to simplify internal development.
Her Xbox overhaul means that several key members of staff that worked closely with former Xbox president Sarah Bond are now leaving. Roanne Sones, corporate VP of Xbox devices and ecosystem will be ‘taking a leave of absence’ after the summer, while Kevin Gammill, corporate VP of Xbox user experience is stepping down after nearly 20 years at Microsoft. Not all however were shown the exit; Jason Ronald, current VP of next gen, is getting promoted, while Jason Beaumont will lead product and serve as interim head of engineering.
Despite hiring in people who she worked with in CoreAI, Asha would later post on Twitter about the new leadership team and also announce that they’re killing off Copilot for Xbox.
Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers.

Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while also bringing in new voices to help push us forward. This balance is important as we get the business…
It was just last year that Microsoft announced Copilot for Gaming and would later also state that Copilot for gaming would hit current generation consoles. However, it seems that Sharma has confirmed that the controversial move won’t be happening anymore.
