Spotify’s new tablet app actually uses the extra screen space now

For a lot of people, the tablet experience hasn’t always been perfect, as apps don’t always make full use of the extra screen real estate. Instagram for example didn’t have a native tablet app for years until last year, and now Spotify is finally joining the crowd by optimising their app for tablets.

Spotify has announced that their new update for their tablet app will bring with it a new experience tailored for the bigger screen. Rather than just scaling up the mobile UI, you can now browse discover new music while showcasing what you’re playing with parallel browsing.

The Spotify app for tablets also now come with adaptive orientation. Rather than just resizing itself based on whether you’re in portrait or landscape, the UI will reconfigure too so that it feels balanced in both views. Then there’s the new collapsible sidebar as well, which Spotify says will let you browse and discover together with your playback, so you’ll never have to leave what you’re playing.

Even video gets an update here, with the Switch to Video toggle letting you easily move to a more immersive viewing experience if you choose to have video content in your Spotify app.

This update is already being rolled out to iPadOS and Android tablets, so you’ll want to check for updates before being able to experience the all new Spotify app for tablets.
