Mac Mini refreshed with M6 and M5 Pro, now starts from RM3,799
We’re a couple of weeks away from a supposed launch for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra, but that isn’t stopping Apple from announcing some new hardware first. Cupertino has surprise dropped the new Mac Mini, with the tiny desktop now packing their latest M6 processor as well as last generation’s M5 Pro.
The biggest upgrade with this refresh is of course under the hood. The base Mac Mini now comes with the Apple M6 rather than the old M4, and this M6 is the company’s first 2nm silicon. It packs a 12-core CPU, two more cores than the M5, with two ‘super’ cores, four performance cores and six efficiency cores. Apple claims it will offer the world’s fastest single-threaded performance, and up to 1.2x faster multithreaded performance compared to the M5.
The M6 also comes with a dual 16-core Neural Engine and a 12-core GPU, along with higher memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. The Mac Mini M6 starts with 16GB of unified memory and goes up to 32GB, while for storage you start with 256GB, topping out at 2TB.
As for the step up Mac Mini with the M5 Pro, Apple is positioning this as the Mac Mini for more performance and higher memory options. This M5 Pro comes with a 15-core CPU and 16-core GPU as standard, while a higher end 18-core CPU and 20-core GPU option is also available.
Going M5 Pro also means you start with 24GB of unified memory, with support for up to 64GB of memory. Similarly, you start with higher 512GB of storage, rising to a maximum of 8TB of storage. The M5 Pro Mac Mini also supports up to three 6K displays; the M6 configuration is limited to two 6K and one 5K display outputs.
Other features of note on the new Mac Mini include faster 2.5Gb Ethernet as standard, upgradable to 10Gb Ethernet if you need, while for wireless connectivity you now get WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support too. There’s also two USB-C 3 ports and a 3.5mm audio jack up front, while the rear I/O comes with HDMI, Ethernet and three Thunderbolt ports; the M6 comes with Thunderbolt 4, while the M5 Pro gets Thunderbolt 5 instead.
Mac Mini Malaysia pricing and availability
You’ll be able to pre-order the new Mac Mini from 27 August onwards, with deliveries and full availability starting from 22 September. The Mac Mini with M6 starts from RM3,799 while the Mac Mini with M5 Pro starts at RM7,499.
Of course, customising your order with higher configuration tiers will bump up the price, with the absolute top spec Mac Mini coming in at a cool RM30,449.
