Samsung Odyssey G8 series: These dual mode gaming monitors let you pick resolution or refresh rate

Samsung has announced the arrival of the Odyssey G8 gaming monitor lineup. Available in 32- and 27-inch monitors, the Odyssey G8 both feature Dual Mode that lets you prioritise either a higher resolution or a faster refresh rate.

32″ Samsung Odyssey G8 G80HS

Starting with the larger of the two G8s, the larger 32-inch monitor has an IPS panel pushing a 6K resolution at 165Hz, meant for those working on productivity and creative projects. Using Dual Mode though lets you switch it to a 3K resolution screen with a 330Hz refresh rate, allowing you to still enjoy high refresh rate gaming on the side.

The screen itself offers 400nits of peak brightness, with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and a 1ms grey-to-grey response time too. There’s also HDR10 support, 99% coverage of the sRGB colour gamut and is both FreeSync Premium and G-Sync compatible too. As for I/O, you get a DisplayPort 2.1, two HDMI 2.1, an audio output, a USB-B upstream, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 downstream and a USB service port. No speakers mind you, but it does have a 100 x 100mm VESA mount.

The Odyssey G8 G80HS features a recommended retail price of RM6,299, but at time of writing it’s currently priced at just RM4,699 over on the Samsung Malaysia website.

27″ Samsung Odyssey G8 G80HF

As for the smaller model, it has a 27-inch IPS panel pushing up to a 5K resolution with a 180Hz refresh rate, though like its larger sibling you can switch it to a lower QHD resolution in Dual Mode, which also enables a much faster 360Hz refresh rate.

Other than that though, it’s mostly the same as the 32-inch model, with the same brightness, colour, ports, certifications and VESA mount. The smaller screen does come with a much more affordable price tag too, with a recommended retail price of RM3,799, which is currently down to just RM3,099 on the Samsung Malaysia website.
