Pixel Fold: Google’s New Foldable Smartphone

Rumoured Launch Date

Rumours are going around that Google will launch the Pixel Fold by the end of this year at a more affordable price compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3. Furthermore, it’ll be more available than the Oppo and Huawei foldable smartphones. However, it won’t be widely accessible as the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Many insiders of the tech field also speculate that Google will launch the Pixel Fold with the new Pixel 7 series. Furthermore, it’s said that the Android 12L will be available at around the same time. Unlike the Android 12, the 12L’s software is designed with large screens in mind.

Design and Specs

The latest rumour says that Google may opt for a foldable phone design like the Galaxy Z Fold 3, unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, it’s said that the Pixel Fold will have a smaller display than its competitors.

Tech insiders also expect Google to use the Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide display for the Pixel Fold as it’s the same display as the Pixel 6 Pro. Not to mention, it has a refresh rate of 120Hz

It’s said that the Google foldable phone will be powered by the same chip as the Pixel 6 series, known as the Tensor chip. It is a chipset that can go head-to-head with the Snapdragon 888. Not to mention, Google enhanced it to improve its imaging, AI, and translation.

Camera

The Pixel smartphone series has always been equipped with impressive cameras due to Google’s fantastic software and sensors. Therefore, we expect no less from the Pixel Fold. 

Tech insiders have said that the Pixel Fold will have the same camera layout as the Pixel 5. It’ll have 2 12MP cameras, one is an ultra-wide-angle camera like the Pixel 6, and another is a regular wide lens. In addition, it’s also said to have Pixel 5’s primary camera sensor.

Cameras have been foldable smartphones’ Achilles heel; it’s the mediocre feature that foldable phones share. However, if the Pixel Fold has the camera quality like the Pixel 5, this might be the foldable smartphone with the best camera.
