Opensignal: U Mobile sees biggest improvement so far, CelcomDigi leads overall coverage
U Mobile has been crowned the top performer in several key categories in Opensignal’s latest Malaysia Mobile Network Experience report, leading the way for consistent quality, download speed and 5G availability.
The telco won five awards outright and three jointly, giving it the highest overall award count among Malaysia’s five major mobile operators. Its consistent quality score increased by 12 percentage points, while it also shares the reliability award with CelcomDigi and Unifi.
One thing worth pointing out though is that Opensignal’s report is based on the period between 1 April to 29 June 2026. That means that their data set actually ended just two days prior to U Mobile completing their transition away from DNB and onto their own Ultra 5G network.
As for the other major telcos, CelcomDigi remains the sole winner of the overall coverage award, scoring 8.8 out of 10 and maintaining a two-point lead over Maxis. Unifi meanwhile leads the experiential categories, winning video, games and voice apps outright; Yes retains the time on network award.
Going further into the details of the report, U Mobile also dominated the 5G Download and 5G Availability charts, recording a massive 280.4Mbps for 5G download speeds, significantly in front of Unifi Mobile at second place, while CelcomDigi came last. It also scored a 5G Availability of 66.6%, with CelcomDigi again in last place. Overall download speeds meanwhile was again won by U Mobile, with the worst being Yes here.
CelcomDigi though did pick up a win for 5G Upload speeds, recording the highest at 32.9Mbps, followed by Maxis, Unifi Mobile, U Mobile and Yes. All five telcos meanwhile were declared joint winners when it came to 5G Coverage.
Opensignal’s report also scores CelcomDigi, U Mobile and Unifi Mobile as their joint winners in terms of overall reliability, with U Mobile just edging out CelcomDigi in terms of consistent quality.
