U Mobile exits DNB agreement, completes migration to its own nationwide 5G network

U Mobile has officially completed the migration of its customers to its own nationwide Ultra 5G network following the end of its wholesale access agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), which took effect on 1 July 2026.
The telco says the move gives it full control over its 5G Standalone (SA) network, allowing it to roll out new products and services more quickly while improving customer experience.
U Mobile began deploying its own 5G network in July 2025 after being appointed as Malaysia’s second 5G network operator. Despite being awarded the second 5G network, the telco remained in a temporary agreement with DNB as they rolled out their own infrastructure. They have now completed that migration, and according to the company, its network now covers more than 85% of populated areas (CoPA) nationwide. It also highlighted that it was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for the country’s fastest 5G network rollout.
Beyond outdoor coverage, U Mobile has also been expanding its indoor 5G footprint through in-building coverage (IBC) deployments. The company says it has completed more than 190 IBC sites across Malaysia, covering locations such as transport hubs, commercial buildings, shopping malls, healthcare facilities, hotels, offices, government premises and enterprise locations. It plans to increase the number of IBC sites to more than 600 in the future.

With full ownership of its network infrastructure, U Mobile says it can introduce additional features made possible by its 5G Standalone network. These include its Priority Pass feature for eligible users during periods of congestion, reserved network capabilities designed to deliver enhanced performance, built-in security features and other future network services.
“The completion of our transition to our own nationwide Ultra 5G network marks a defining milestone for U Mobile.
It gives us full control over our network, allowing us to innovate faster, elevate customer experience and introduce more differentiated products and services that meet the evolving needs of consumers and businesses be it indoors or outdoors,” – Wong Heang Tuck, U Mobile CEO
On top of that, the telcoo also revealed that it has secured RM4.3 billion in syndicated financing from a consortium of local and international financial institutions to fund the continued expansion and enhancement of its network.
