Nothing becomes latest victim of rising memory costs as it cancels this year’s CMF Phone

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for the next CMF smartphone, there’s some disappointing news. Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis has confirmed that CMF by Nothing will not be launching a new smartphone this year.
In a post on X, Evangelidis said the company had been actively working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but ultimately decided against bringing it to market. According to him, the decision was largely driven by current memory pricing, which has made it difficult for the company to develop a device that would offer a meaningful upgrade while still maintaining CMF’s value-for-money positioning.
A lot of you have been asking when the next CMF phone is coming and as always we'd rather be transparent.

CMF Phone 2 Pro was a product we were incredibly proud of. It even won Budget Phone of the Year from MKBHD and the response from all of you made it even more special.

For context, Evangelidis gave the example of the current CMD Phone 2 Pro, stating that had they launched the exact same phone today, it would be priced around INR30,000 to INR35,000 (~RM1,321 to ~RM1,541); the phone debuted in India starting at just INR22,999, while in Malaysia it sold for RM1,199.
As such, instead of releasing a device that doesn’t meet its standards, the company has opted to skip this year’s CMF smartphone launch altogether. The decision comes after what Evangelidis described as a successful run for the CMF Phone 2 Pro. The budget-focused smartphone received positive reviews and was even awarded “Budget Phone of the Year” by popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD).

While there won’t be a new CMF smartphone in 2026, Evangelidis hinted that the brand still has several launches planned for the remainder of the year. According to his post, CMF is preparing to introduce multiple new products as well as entries into “entirely new categories”, although he stopped short of revealing specific details.
CMF’s current portfolio includes wireless earbuds, smartwatches and accessories, so it remains to be seen what new product categories the company plans to explore next.
