Nintendo announces price hikes for the Nintendo Switch 2

Sony has already hiked up the prices of its PlayStation 5 video game consoles, and it seems their fellow Japanese counterparts are doing the same. Nintendo has announced price hikes for the Switch 2 in several regions, citing various changes in the market environment.
Their home country of Japan has been hit the hardest. The Switch 2 along with the original Switch lineup have all gone up in price, with the Switch 2 getting hit by a JPY10,000 increase. These new prices will take effect from 25 May onwards. Nintendo is also hiking the pricing of their Nintendo Switch Online services in Japan and South Korea.

As for those outside of Japan, so far Nintendo has only confirmed price hikes in the US, Canada and Europe, with these new prices effective 1 September this year. The US gets a USD50 increase, along with Canada’s CAD50 hike, while Europeans will need to pay EUR30 more for their Switch 2.

In any case, Nintendo didn’t mention any price increase for Malaysia just yet, so you might still have some time left to pick up a Switch 2 from the official Nintendo Store Malaysia, currently priced at RM2,288.

That being said, it could be a similar situation to Sony and their PlayStation 5 price hike, which saw a staggered global rollout of the price increase, with Malaysia getting hit by it a month after it was initially announced.
