Sony hikes PlayStation 5 prices in Malaysia, up to RM430 more

After announcing a global price hike for the PlayStation 5 lineup back in March, Sony has now confirmed that the price increase will take place in Malaysia from 1 May onwards.

Here are the new prices for the PlayStation 5 consoles in Malaysia:

  • PlayStation 5 – MYR 2,799
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – MYR 2,499
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – MYR 3,999
  • PlayStation Portal – MYR 1,099

For context, here are the current outgoing prices for the PlayStation 5 lineup:

  • PlayStation 5 – MYR 2,499
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – MYR 2,069
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – MYR 3,849
  • PlayStation Portal – MYR 999

This means that the PS5 Digital Edition takes the biggest hit here, with a RM430 increase in its retail price, while the PS5 Disc goes up by RM300. This puts the Digital Edition just RM300 cheaper than the Disc Edition; the previous RM430 price gap made the Digital Edition a lot more appealing to gamers. The PS5 Pro meanwhile is going up by RM150, with the PlayStation Portal going up by RM100.

The move followed their previous announcement of a global price hike for their gaming consoles, where Sony stated that they made this move due to ‘continued pressures in the global economic landscape’.

At time of writing, the Sony Malaysia website still shows the old pricing. However, none of the consoles are available for purchase, with all of them shown as ‘out of stock’.
