iPhone Tips and Tricks to Make the Most Out of Your iPhone
If you’re seeking some iPhone tips and tricks, you’re at the right place. You might not realise the full power of your iPhone despite using it every day. One of the many great things about the iPhone is the surprising features available right before you.
Let’s dig up the hidden gems in your iPhone together.
1. Record Videos in an Instant
Have you ever wanted to record something quickly, but by the time you open your Camera app and scroll to the Video section, the moment’s passed?
No more of that struggle! Now, you can instantly capture beautiful moments on video by simply dragging the Camera button to the right.
Not only that, unlike the Video section that would automatically pause the song your iPhone is playing, utilising this feature will keep the song playing. Hence, the song will be in your video!
2. Set Your Profile Picture
Add a default profile picture so that when people add you to their contact, they will have your picture set.
- Open Messages app
- Click “Edit”
- Select “Edit Name and Photo”
The choices are endless! If you’re not in the mood to take new pictures and the ones in your iPhone are just not ‘it’ – you can also set your Memoji as your profile picture.
3. Monitor Your Menstrual Cycle
The Health app can help you track various health data, one of which is your menstrual cycle.
The Cycle Tracking Health feature helps predict your next period. You can also log your period flow and other symptoms like cramps, acne, and bloating.
4. Select Wi-Fi Networks Faster
Good news for all, you no longer need to go to Settings just to connect to a nearby Wi-Fi!
- Open Control Center (swipe down on the top-right corner of your iPhone)
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi widget
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi icon to access available networks
5. Just Siri It!
If you have a messy Home Screen and are too tired to swipe to find the apps, just ask Siri to open it for you. Bring your iPhone close and say, “Hey, Siri! Open (name of the app).” Alternatively (for iPhone X or later), press the Side button and directly state your request. As simple as ABC!
6. Respectfully Ignore a Call
When you’re too busy to answer calls, you might feel guilty for clicking the Red button and leaving the caller hanging. Instead, explain why you’re not answering their calls.
- Open Settings
- Select “Phone”
- Tap “Respond with Text”
- Customise your messages
Here’s a tip: Customise according to your routine. Are you always in a meeting or busy socialising? Or you might also want them to text you if it’s urgent.
7. Create Shortcuts
Is there anything you do regularly? Whether it’s calling your partner or family members, logging your Health data, or opening Maps to find the best route to your office – you can promptly do all that by adding Shortcuts.
- Open Shortcuts
- Follow the steps to customise new actions
8. Screenshot Full Pages
On a web page, you can screen capture the entire page with a click.
- Take a screenshot
- Click the pop-up screenshotted image
- Tap “Full Page”
- Save or share the whole web page
9. Add “Back Tap” (iPhone 8 or later)
There’s nothing we love more than to have another shortcut. Did you know that the Apple logo on your iPhone is also a functional button?
- Open Settings
- Select Accessibility > Touch
- Click “Back Tap”
- Choose functions for double or triple tap
10. SharePlay (iOS 15.1 or later)
With the latest iOS 15.1 update, you can watch videos, scroll through apps, or listen to music together with your besties on FaceTime! The update allows you to have a real fun time with synced playback and shared controls, so you can simultaneously see and hear the same things.
- Start a FaceTime call
- Tap > Share My Screen
- A countdown of 3 seconds will appear, then your screen is visible on FaceTime
*Do note that some apps that support SharePlay might require a subscription from all FaceTime participants.
