Grab Malaysia launches Kid-Friendly Rides with booster seats for children aged four to 12

Grab Malaysia has introduced Kid-Friendly Rides in beta, a new ride option that lets families book a car equipped with a booster seat for children aged four to 12. This means you won’t have to lug a bulky car seat around with you, especially when heading to or from the airport.

For this, Grab has teamed up with child car seat brand Koopers, which is supplying the booster seats for a limited fleet of vehicles. The service also follows the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research’s (MIROS) safety guidelines, and the driver-partners involved have been trained to handle the use of child seats.

Right now, Kid-Friendly Rides is only available through Advance Booking for trips to and from KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Grab says the feature will then be expanded in phases to the wider Klang Valley, followed by Penang and Johor Bahru.

To book one, open the Grab app, tap on “Car” and select the Advance Booking tile, then schedule your preferred pick-up time. Once you’ve keyed in your pick-up or drop-off point at the airport, you’ll be able to pick the feature under either Standard 6-Seater or Grab EV Exec.

Grab Malaysia executive director Rashid Shukor added that the new feature is meant to help families travel light while still keeping their children safe on the road.

“Families should be able to travel with their children with greater peace of mind, without managing the hassle of carrying heavy and cumbersome child seats. With Kid-Friendly Rides (Beta), we hope to make it easier for families to travel light by offering dedicated booster seats.

This reflects a commitment we share with the Ministry of Transport, with MIROS, and with partners like Koopers, to ensure that when families travel, they travel safely, and that children are never an afterthought on the road,” – Rashid Shukor, Executive Director of Grab Malaysia.

As for pricing, Standard 6-Seater bookings come with one booster seat for an add-on fee of RM10. Meanwhile, Grab EV Exec rides include a Koopers Boost Fix booster seat at no extra cost. Kid-Friendly Rides joins Grab’s other safety features on its platform, including AudioProtect and Women-Only Rides, which is also currently in beta.
