ROG Strix Scar 18 specs

The ROG Strix Scar 18 is the Taiwanese brand’s most hardware packed gaming laptop to date, with an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor mated to 64GB of DDR5 6400MHz SODIMM memory, up to 4TB of PCIe 4.0 storage in RAID 0, as well as your choice between the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 or the RTX 5090 laptop GPU.

In total, you’re looking at up to 320W of performance in this machine, kept cool by a tri-fan ROG Intelligent Cooling with an end-to-end vapor chamber and a sandwiched heatsink. Asus also used Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal over the CPU, while dust filters over the intake vents ensure dust stays out.

As for its display, there’s an 18-inch ROG Nebula HDR MiniLED display, with a 2.5K resolution on the RTX 5080 model and a 4K panel on the one with the RTX 4090. Both screens feature an up to 240Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 1600nits, a 3ms response time, full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, NVIDIA G-Sync, a MUX switch with Nvidia Advanded Optimus as well as an anti glare and low reflection layer over the display.

Of course, we can’t forget the absurd amount of RGB lighting on the ROG Strix Scar 18, with its full-surround RGB Aura Lighting across the chassis, per-key RGB backlit full size keyboard and the RGB ROG logo on the lid. You’ll also find the AniMe Vision display there, an array of 810 LEDs that you can customise to showcase different animations, text or even a drawing from scratch.

Other features of note include a quad-speaker setup encompassing two tweeters and two downward firing woofers in 5.1.2 channel virtual surround sound. That’s on top of a 90Wh battery keeping the lights on, a 450W charging brick, a 1080p IR webcam with Windows Hello as well as support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless connectivity.
