Razer Prio: Gaming controller for smartphones that folds into the size of a credit card
Razer has unveiled the Prio, a rather unusual gaming controller for iPhone and Android that folds down to roughly the size of a credit card. At just 101g, it is designed to be small and light enough to throw into your pocket before heading out.
The Prio is the first product in Razer’s new range of ultraportable mobile controllers. Despite its tiny folded footprint of 107mm × 67mm × 23mm, Razer says the controller unfolds into a full-sized gamepad with a conventional console-style layout.
It uses a twist-to-unlock mechanism, allowing the controller to be opened in one motion. Once unfolded, it can hold smartphones measuring up to 7 inches, which should suffice for large devices like the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. The controller is also designed to work with most slim to medium-sized phone cases, so you won’t have to remove your case every time you want to play. Foldable smartphones though are perhaps a little too big for it.
The controls include analogue thumbsticks, a tactile four-way D-pad, face buttons, bumpers and triggers, so you won’t be giving up much in the controls department just because the Prio folds away.
The more interesting part is perhaps what Razer has done with its thumbsticks. The Prio uses capacitive analogue sticks, which Razer says are its first controller sticks to use contactless capacitive sensing. Instead of relying on physical contacts that can wear down over time, the sticks detect movement electronically, which they claim will reduce stick drift while maintaining precise control.
And unlike many wireless mobile controllers, there is no Bluetooth pairing to mess around with. The Prio connects directly to your phone over USB-C, which also means there is no separate controller battery to charge. Razer adds that the wired connection provides low-latency input for more responsive gameplay.
Razer has also taken into account where you might actually use something this small. The Prio features silent tactile face buttons, allowing you to get your gaming fix without making quite as much noise in a crowded bus, waiting room or classroom.
As for compatibility, the Prio supports iPhone models running iOS 18 and Android devices running Android 14 or later. You can use it to play games directly on your smartphone, or if you prefer you can also set up a mobile cloud gaming experience via services like Steam Link or PS Remote Play. The Razer Cortex app meanwhile also lets you access your PC games on your smartphone through the Razer Cortex PC app.
The Razer Prio is priced at RM469, and is available for purchase from the Razer Malaysia website for now, with local retailers stocking it up soon.
