Fahmi: Prasarana to run 24-hour public transport for National Day

By Alyaa Najwa August 11, 2026

Good news if you’re planning to join the National Day celebrations in Putrajaya this year. Prasarana will keep its public transport services running for 24 hours from the night of 30 August into 31 August, government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has confirmed.

The announcement was made after Fahmi officiated the Majlis Ekspresi Jalur Gemilang JAPEN@Petronas programme at Petronas NPE Pantai Dalam.

“Prasarana has committed to providing 24-hour public transport services in conjunction with National Day. We hope this will not only help more people come to Putrajaya, but also make it easier for them to travel home after the programme ends,” – Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Government Spokesman

In 2025, all Rapid KL rail lines, the Sunway BRT, selected bus routes and several Rapid On-Demand zones operated continuously from 6am on 30 August until 11.30pm on 31 August. Additional buses and free shuttle services were also provided to help move crowds to and from Dataran Putrajaya.

For now, Prasarana has only confirmed that 24-hour services will be provided. Details such as the participating routes, exact operating hours and shuttle arrangements have yet to be announced, with more information expected closer to the celebration.

Fahmi also shared several updates on this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. Among them, he confirmed that the Malaysia Day celebration will take place in Kuching, Sarawak, continuing the annual rotation of the event between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Jalur Gemilang distribution also has been updated with a magnet-based design, allowing motorists to attach and remove the flag from their vehicles more easily.
