Facebook gets AI-powered search, photo editing and content creation tools

Facebook, the social media platform by Meta that just about everyone has, is introducing several new AI-powered features aimed at helping users search for information, create content and edit photos directly within the app.

The biggest addition is AI Mode, a new search experience powered by Meta AI. Instead of returning a traditional list of links, AI Mode generates answers based on publicly shared content across Meta’s platforms, including Facebook Groups, posts and Reels. Meta says the feature is designed to surface recommendations, opinions and experiences shared by users, offering a more conversational way to discover information on Facebook.

Meta is also expanding its AI-assisted content creation tools. Facebook’s camera roll sharing suggestions now include AI-generated collage templates and automated video montage creation with transition effects. The feature can turn photos from a user’s camera roll into shareable collages and videos with minimal editing. The company says camera roll sharing suggestions remain opt-in and can be disabled at any time.

As for photo editing, Facebook is adding new AI presets that allow users to modify their appearance in images. The tools can automatically change clothing, hairstyles and accessories. Sports fans can also use a new “Wear It” option to virtually add team jerseys to photos. The AI editing features can be accessed through Stories by tapping the AI Edit icon, or through profile pictures using the “Restyle profile picture with AI” option.
