CelcomDigi’s MY5G SME workshop helps Malaysian businesses get more out of digital tools

By Raymond Saw August 14, 2026

CelcomDigi is bringing its MY5G SME Digital Workshop to more Malaysian businesses, with the latest session in Penang attracting more than 300 small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Now in its fourth year, the programme has reached more than 3,000 entrepreneurs across Malaysia. It is designed to help SMEs pick up practical digital skills, from building an online presence to using technology to streamline their daily operations.

This year, CelcomDigi introduced different workshop formats depending on where a business is in its growth journey. Newer businesses can learn how to establish a digital presence, while more established SMEs are introduced to technology and digital solutions that can be applied to their existing operations.

The latest program is being held in 14 locations nationwide, with the Northern leg taking place in Penang this week. CelcomDigi is running the workshops with a range of partners, including Funding Societies Malaysia, Swipey, CTOS, CardUp, MARA, SME Bank, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia, SME Corp, SAMENTA, Digital Penang, Onsmo Lighting Malaysia and TikTok Shop Malaysia.

One of the businesses taking part highlighted by the elco is Dapur Bakar Ayam Goreng Kunyit, which was started in Penang using a three-wheel cart. The business has since grown to 13 outlets nationwide.

The owners, Puan Noor Shamsiah Mohd Farouk Marican and her husband, Encik Mohd Hasnizam Abu Bakar, also attended CelcomDigi’s workshop in Penang last year. They said the session helped them understand how digital tools, particularly content creation and social commerce, could help them reach new customers. Unsurprisingly, the business is also a CelcomDigi Business customer, using its Business Postpaid and Fibre services for connectivity.

“SMEs do not need digitalisation to be complicated. They need solutions that address challenges such as reaching new customers, managing cash flow, creating content or finding the right partners to grow.

That is why our workshops are focused on providing practical knowledge, open access to industry experts and hands-on learning on how technology can transform business for the better,” – T Kugan, CelcomDigi Chief Enterprise Business Officer

Apart from the workshops, CelcomDigi also conducted market visits under its Skuad 5G Edisi SME initiative. Visits to Pasar Awam Bagan Ajam and Pasar Awam Sri Muda in Penang allowed the telco to speak directly with more than 110 business owners about their digital needs and challenges.

CelcomDigi says the MY5G SME Digital Workshop will continue across the country as part of its efforts to help more Malaysian SMEs adopt digital tools and improve how they run their businesses. The upcoming events will be held in places like Malacca, Pahang, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak.
