With the FIFA World Cup 2026 set to kick off, CelcomDigi says it has stepped up network preparations to ensure Malaysians can stream matches smoothly via the RTMKlik app throughout the tournament.
The telco expects a significant increase in mobile data usage nationwide, especially during match hours, as football fans tune in to live streams, engage on social media, and share content in real time. To prepare for the anticipated spike in traffic, CelcomDigi says its 24/7 Network Operations Centre (NOC) will closely monitor network performance throughout the tournament period.
Some of the steps taken by CelcomDigi include:
- Pre-emptive capacity planning and optimisation during match hours
- Network enhancements at high-traffic locations such as residential areas, commercial centres, and public viewing venues
- Deployment of mobile base stations at selected locations
- Round-the-clock monitoring and rapid response procedures
- Reinforcement of critical network infrastructure to maintain uptime
The telco adds that they’ve brought together their network engineers and technical partners to oversee over 18,000 sites nationwide for the World Cup season.
