BMW Teams Up With Presenter Alex Scott To Reduce EV Misconceptions
Electric vehicle adoption has hit a plateau around the world due to lagging public infrastructure to support the network as well as the spread of misinformation about them. While the former will take considerable time to address, BMW has a solution for the latter problem.
The company is collaborating with Alex Scott MBE to bring positive change towards the perception of EVs. An ex-footballer, presenter and broadcaster, Scott will be spearheading a new “Living with Electric” campaign featuring the BMW iX2.
It’s a chic SUV that features an all-wheel drive powertrain, which produces 230kW of power and 494Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 180km/h. BMW claims that the 64.8kWh battery can offer a range of between 417 to 449km on a single charge.
The vehicle sold in Malaysia can support a maximum of 22kW AC fast charging and 130kW DC rapid charging. Using the former requires 3.75 hours for a full charge while the latter needs 29 minutes to do the same.
The new campaign underscores the company’s commitment to improve widespread adoption of EV mobility. Scott is said to exemplify the rebellious spirit of the iX2 thanks to her influential roles in various media and fashion industries.
According to a recent YouGov report there is extensive misinformation and lack of knowledge regarding EVs. Women remain at the forefront of this problem with only a fifth of them considering purchasing an electric vehicle compared to a third of men. BMW believes that to improve the odds, a wider and more positive approach is needed to appeal to a larger audience.
Speaking of this campaign, Scott said, “”I hold my hands up, I wasn’t sure how an electric car would fit into my busy lifestyle, given the miles I travel and common concerns about charging. However, as someone who supports positive cultural change, I was eager to explore the possibilities.”
Scott, through the Electric multimedia campaign, will be documenting her journey as she transitions to electric vehicles. Since BMW has given her good amount of control over the content, she will be able to provide valuable practical advice and honest perspective.
The series addresses her initial doubts and concerns and sheds light on various misconceptions surrounding EVs. Informative content like this, levels the playing field and allows a straight fight between present and legacy technology. As more people begin to see the benefit that electric vehicles over ICE ones, the more effort will be placed on supporting the EV network.
