Beware of Shopee Recruitment Scam and Other News.

THE Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has informed Shopee that scammers have been impersonating their employees to offer their e-commerce platform’s job opportunities to its victims.

They have been scamming their victims through messaging platforms, such as WhatsApp.

“Shopee would like to officially state that Shopee does not employ any individuals to recruit employees through messaging platforms. Shopee also confirms that there is no such role as ‘Online Purchasing Agents’ in the organisation,” the online retailer said in a press statement yesterday.

Shopee urged Malaysians to be more vigilant and aware of these scams and to not be fooled by these false employment offers and will work with PDRM on this issue.

“Should any member of the public find themselves being offered questionable job opportunities, or have fallen victim to such scams, please contact the nearest police station and file a police report immediately.”

Malaysians can also check various channels to ensure these information that has been circulating around are legit which are SEMAKMULE (https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my/) which is PDRM’s platform to check on bank accounts and telephone numbers involved with commercial crimes.

To check on the status of police reports and submit information on commercial crime cases, one can contact the CCID Infoline which is PDRM’s Whatsapp at 013-211 1222 from 8am to 12am.

The CCID Scam Response Centre is PDRM’s  information hotline to submit information or inquire information on online scams. It can be contacted through  03-26101559 or 03-26101599 from 8am to 8pm.

Appropriate disposal of consignment notes

Separately, the Royal Malaysia Police has also shared a reminder post regarding the importance of appropriately disposing of received packages with attached consignment notes.

As the consignment note contains personal information such as name, home address and phone number, it can be dangerous if this information falls into the wrong hands. By practising safe disposal, we can help avoid any unnecessary risks.

Shopee is Hiring Riders!

While Shopee isn’t hiring any online purchasing agents via Whatsapp or other messaging platforms, they are indeed hiring riders for their upcoming ShopeeFood service!

The requirements are as follow:

✅ Malaysia Citizen (With Identification Card)⁣
✅ Aged 18 and above⁣
✅ Posses a valid motorcycle license (at least a P license)⁣
✅ Have a personal smartphone that supports iOS 10 or Android 4.4 and above.
✅ No PDRM⁣ criminal charges track record.
✅ No record of prior account suspension or Shopee platform.⁣
