You can now speak to Anwar Ibrahim, thanks to his PMX.AI WhatsApp chatbot
Over the weekend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has launched perhaps his most curious project yet. PMX.AI is the Prime Minister’s own AI avatar chatbot, revealed through his social media with a video depicting a ‘Madani Multiverse’ with Anwar in various roles to fit the needs of various Malaysians.
His post also comes with a link to WhatsApp the Anwar avatar at +60378850523, inviting Malaysians to share with the AI their views, concerns and aspirations, as well as to foster new ideas and public discourse. According to the Prime Minister, it’s merely the latest in the ‘evolution of national communication’.

It’s not too surprising to see this of course. The government has been fairly pro-AI for some time now, and has long been trying to push forward the digitalisation of the country. PMX.AI is understood to have been built by the digital services firm Zetrix AI, formerly MYEG Services.
With that being said, the chatbot almost immediately got overwhelmed perhaps by the millions of curious Malaysians. Some users began reporting that after messaging the Anwar avatar chatbot, they were met by a ‘temporarily unavailable’ reply.
Not all Malaysians were impressed by the avatar either. The Prime Minister’s announcement video received some flak online, with some unimpressed by the AI generated video, while others lamented the wasted tokens and environmental impact of yet another AI chatbot. Some commenters also questioned why the Prime Minster opted not to use one of the various Malaysian animation firms to produce the launch video instead.
