1. Samsung took jabs at Apple in its recent ads.

About a week ago, Samsung released three 15-second clips that took jabs at Apple’s iPhone Pro Max. Revolving around the theme that ‘Your phone upgrade shouldn’t be a downgrade’, in these three short clips, Samsung contrasted its camera functions against the iPhone Pro Max.

The approach by Samsung was received with its fair share of backlash from the community. Here are some of the comments:

Overall, there a quite a number of people from the community who felt that Samsung was stooping down to take low jabs at Apple.

While others felt like the act was a little hypocritical considering Samsung had bashed Apple for removing headphone jacks and charger only to follow in its footsteps. Nevertheless, what do you think about these clips?

2. Amazon has finalized an acquisition deal with MGM for US$8.45 Billion

As reported on businesswire, Amazon has finalized an acquisition deal with MGM for US$8.45 Billion. With this acquisition, Amazon plans to continue empowering MGM to do what they do best: storytelling.

The natural follow up question would be why acquire MGM? Though not verified, a report by CNBC speculates that this move is part of Amazon Prime’s effort to reduce overall subscription churn.

With MGM, Amazon will be able to deliver more value to its Prime subscribers, effectively creating more customer stickiness.

3. Apple is hiring a Business Development Manager for Alternative Payments

On May 25, 2021, Apple posted up a vacancy for a business development manager position for alternative payments. In its qualification requirements, it is revealed that Apple is looking to employ someone with prior experience working with cryptocurrencies and digital wallets.

Although this is only a job posting, it has created many speculations around what Apple is up to. Could Apple be open to accepting cryptocurrencies as a mode of payment? Or are they in the works of creating their very own ‘Applecoin’?

4. Xiaomi Corporation announces ban lifted.

In a recent tweet, Xiaomi Corporation announced that the ban on the corporation as a “Communist Chinese Military Company” has been lifted.

With the ban lifted, U.S. citizens are once again able to buy or holding its stock.
