1. Celcom begins its process of phasing out 3G services

In line with Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiatives, Celcom has begun its prep-work of getting its users ready to say goodbye to 3G networks as all operators will discontinue 3G.

An SMS was sent on Monday, 1st Aug 2021 to its users to inform them that 3G services will be phased out by December 2021. Telcos are working hard to ensure stable 4G connectivity in all areas prior to the phasing out of 3G support.

Earlier this year, MCMC has also announced that it will no longer be certifying 3G devices.

2. Spotify lowers pricing of daily and weekly plans to RM1.00/day or RM3.90/week

Spotify first released its daily and weekly plans a couple months back at RM1.50/day or RM4.90/week. This week, Spotify revised its pricing to a more attractive rate of RM1.00/day or RM3.90/week.

The daily and weekly plans are especially suitable for free users who only needs temporary access to a premium plan. It can definitely come in handy when going on a vacation or taking some time off work.

3. Xiaomi celebrates 2nd consecutive quarter as the No. 1 smartphone brand in Malaysia

Just a couple weeks ago, Xiaomi celebrated overtaking Apple as in global smartphone shipments to move up to second place just behind Samsung is Q2, 2021.

Today, Xiaomi Malaysia is yet again celebrating its position as the No. 1 smartphone brand in Malaysia for two consecutive quarters! According to Canalys, Xiaomi achieved 24% market share and 109% annual growth in Q2 2021.

That’s amazing!

4. Data Internet Selangor launches 3 free data packages

The Selangor government has officially launched its previously announced subsidised internet packages as part of the state’s Pakej Kita Selangor 2.0.

This initiative is expected to benefit 70,000 people living in Selangor by providing them access to 12 months of free data.

The initiative is very targeted toward specific groups of the larger community. Only those within the categories below will qualify for this initiative.

Registrations are open from now till 15 September with the sim cards expected to be delivered from 1 October onwards.
