Vivo unveils OriginOS 7, coming to Malaysia with X500 series

Vivo has unveiled OriginOS 7, its latest smartphone operating system based on Android 17, with enhancements focused on smoother performance, improved multitasking and new cross-device features.

The biggest addition is Origin Workbench, which lets users manage up to five active apps in a single workspace. Vivo also claims its new Origin Smooth Engine can reduce app cold-start times by 10% and improve app page switching by 11%.

On top of that, OriginOS 7 introduces the new Memory Fusion feature, which the smartphone manufacturer claims will be able to reclaim 60% more memory and free up to 25GB of storage on a 256GB device. The company has also tested the software for 72 months as part of its anti-ageing testing.

Meanwhile, you can expect to see broader cross-platform connectivity with Apple devices. Apple Watch will soon be able to display notifications and sync health data with compatible Vivo phones, while AirPods can show battery information and support Spatial Audio. The Vivo Office Kit will also allow users to transfer files and sync notes between Vivo smartphones, iPad, Mac and Windows PCs.

Then there’s Jovi, Vivo’s new personal AI agent which apparently is capable of performing tasks across connected devices. It can retrieve and summarise files from a PC, send the results to your phone and handle scheduled tasks. Snap Note meanwhile can convert photos of handwritten notes, whiteboards and slides into editable documents.

For Malaysia, the upcoming Vivo X500 series will be the first to ship with OriginOS 7, followed by other X Series models and later the V and Y Series.
