U Mobile partners up with HLGY Energy to develop next-gen smart solar farms in Malaysia

U Mobile has announced that they’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HLGY Energy Sdn Bhd to work on developing next-generation smart solar farm solutions in Malaysia. Under the MoU, U Mobile will serve as HLGY Energy’s innovation, automation and communications infrastructure provider.

HLGY Energy for those unfamiliar are a Malaysian renewable energy company that works on utility-scale solar and integrated energy solutions under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), such as the Kedah Rubber City Solar Power Plant. They’re now teaming up with U Mobile to explore the deployment of a private 5G network that would form the digital backbone of a smart solar farm.

This network will provide dedicated connectivity to the smart solar farm, allowing for applications such as autonomous drone inspections, AI-powered analytics, smart CCTV surveillance, remote monitoring and faster response to operational and maintenance needs. For U Mobile meanwhile, this partnership will support their own enterprise growth strategy, applying the Ultra 5G network to the needs of the renewable energy sector.

“This collaboration will demonstrate how U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network can enable the next generation of smart and sustainable infrastructure. By combining private 5G connectivity with AI and industrial automation, we aim to help HLGY Energy develop renewable energy assets that are safer, more efficient and increasingly autonomous,” – How Lih Ren, U Mobile Chief Business Officer

How added that beyond connectivity, the telco added that they’re working towards becoming a trusted digital solutions partner to enterprises across the country, and that this is the first step towards applying their network and technology capabilities towards CRESS.
