Tencent Cloud and U Mobile team up to bring 5G and AI solutions to Malaysian businesses

Tencent Cloud and U Mobile are joining forces to develop 5G and AI tools for Malaysian businesses. The two have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore practical solutions aimed at enterprises and SMEs, and notably, it’s Tencent Cloud’s first official AI-focused partnership with a Malaysian telco.
For a quick primer, Tencent Cloud is the cloud arm of Chinese tech giant Tencent, while U Mobile is Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider. The plan is to pair Tencent Cloud’s AI and cloud know-how with U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network and its Enterprise Innovation Platform (EIP) to build and test solutions for real business problems.
In practice, the two will run the ideas through the EIP’s “Develop, Test and Demonstrate” pathway, where AI-driven solutions are built and validated before they’re put in front of industries. If a use case proves itself, it could move on to pilot deployments and eventually a full commercial rollout. To get there, the pair plan to bring in businesses, startups, developers, academia and other tech partners through workshops, demos and pilot showcases.
“By combining Tencent Cloud’s AI and cloud capabilities with U Mobile’s 5G infrastructure and innovation ecosystem, we look forward to enabling enterprises, SMEs, and developers to build impactful 5G and AI applications that address real-world business challenges while supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation ambitions.” – Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President of Tencent Cloud
For now, this is very much an early-stage agreement rather than a finished product, so there’s nothing for businesses to sign up to just yet. Still, it’s a sign of the growing push to marry 5G and AI for local industries, and if the collaboration bears fruit, it could mean more homegrown 5G and AI tools for Malaysian companies down the line.
