Spotify introduces Running Mode, a personalised workout soundtrack for runners

By Raymond Saw July 31, 2026

Spotify has launched Running Mode, a new feature that creates personalised music sessions based on your running goals, workout style, tempo and music preferences.

Available through Spotify’s Fitness Hub, Running Mode lets users choose from 25 running presets and customise their session by selecting workout types such as intervals, steady runs, or pyramid workouts, along with duration, beats per minute (BPM), and preferred music styles.

The feature matches songs to a user’s selected pace and smoothly transitions between tracks to create a more consistent workout soundtrack. It also includes optional English audio cues that provide motivation and guidance during runs.

Running Mode is part of Spotify’s wider push into personalised fitness experiences, building on its existing fitness content such as Peloton classes and creator-led workout videos. It also builds on Spotify’s previous work with Prompted Playlists, where fitness-related prompts have become one of the popular ways users discover personalised playlists.

Unfortunately for the dozens of runners in Malaysia, the feature is currently only rolling out for Spotify Premium users on iOS in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.
