Samsung 990 SSD coming soon to Malaysia, up to 2TB, priced from RM1,069

Samsung Malaysia has announced that their latest budget-friendly Gen 4 QLC SSD is coming to Malaysia. Sitting below their higher end Pro and midrange Evo lineup, the 990 SSD should offer users a competent, daily drive at a reasonable enough price tag, assuming you can find it in stock.
Available in 1TB and 2TB capacities, the Samsung 990 SSD is a PCIe Gen 4 SSD in a M.2 2280 form factor, with Samsung V9 QLC flash memory rated at sequential read/write speeds of up to 7,150MB/s and 6,450MB/s on the 1TB model, while the 2TB drive offers up to 6,250MB/s and 6,450MB/s read/write speeds. As for random read/write speeds, 1TB and 2TB models offer up to 700K/1,100K IOPS and up to 850K/1,200K IOPS respectively.
The Samsung 990 SSD also comes with an in-house PiccoloQ DRAM-less controller. As for power consumption, Samsung claims it’s up to 38% more power efficient compared to the 990 Pro, with rated 4W and 4.3W power consumption on the 1TB and 2TB models respectively.
As for endurance, you will get up to 400 TBW on the 1TB 990SSD, with double the endurance on the 2TB model. Both models also get a 3-year warranty, a little lower than the usual 5 years.
The Samsung 990 SSD will be available from late July 2026 onwards, with a recommended retail price of RM1,069 for the 1TB model and RM2,111 for the 2TB model respectively.
