realme C55 with ‘Android’s First Mini Capsule’ launches at RM699

March 28, 2023

realme has drawn back the curtains on the much-talked-about realme C55. The C55 had its share of attention in the weeks leading up to the launch, largely due to its new Dynamic Island-like feature.

This feature as it turns out, is what realme claims to be ‘Android’s First Mini Capsule.’ We’ll get to that a little later on. For now, we’ll talk about pricing and availability in Malaysia.

Ryan Zeng, Vice President of realme Malaysia unveiling the price of the realme C55

The realme C55 6GB+128GB variant will go at RM699, while the 8GB+256GB is slightly more premium at RM799. Pre-order starts today until the 30th of March on the realme official brand store. All pre-orders within then will receive complimentary realme Buds 2 and 6 months extended warranty.

From the 31st of March onwards, you may purchase the realme C55 on realme official store on Shopee and Lazada. Buyers from this date onwards will receive realme Buds 2, screen crack warranty, as well as a realmeow keychain. Do note however these gifts will go on a first come first serve basis.

You can also purchase the realme C55 on their official TikTok store, which will still entitle you to free realme Buds 2.

So, what is this Mini Capsule realme has been raving about? To put it simply, it’s an on-screen popup bar that that wraps around middle punch-hole camera. It is similar to the Dynamic Island feature on the flagship iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but without the pill-shaped cutout.

The Mini Capsule found on the realme C55 will adapt according to certain functions. Right now, the Mini Capsule will display battery levels, charging status, data usage, daily steps, and walking distance. It will also popup when you receive notifications.

Truth be told, the Mini Capsule will probably lack the full range of features of the Dynamic Island itself. But remember, the realme C55 is an entry-level device, and to have a similar experience is deserving of some applause.

Beyond that, the realme C55 will utilize the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset. You will have up to 8GB of RAM, totaling up to 16GB with Dynamic RAM; and 256GB of storage expandable up to 1TB thanks to a dedicated microSD slot.

The C55 will carry a 6.72-inch FHD+ (1080x2040px) display with up to 90Hz refresh rate. You won’t get too much in terms of brightness as it peaks at 680nits. However, it does keep a 91.4% screen-to-body ratio which makes for a decent display in an entry-level device.

Its cameras too can hold its weight. It boasts a dual camera system, with more emphasis placed on the 64MP Main Camera with Dynamic Image Snapshot (DIS). According to realme, this feature will ensure sharpness even when subjects are moving.

At the front is a basic 8MP selfie camera.

The realme C55 packs a decent 5,000mAh battery with 33W SUPERVOOC charging capable of giving you 50% in 29 minutes, and 100% in 63 minutes.

Despite the sizable battery capacity, it manages to keep a 7.89mm slim depth and remains lightweight at 189.5g. You get two colour choices on the realme C55: Sunshower and Rainy Night.
