Prudential Malaysia confirms data breach, customers and agent data affected
In a news release published on its website, Prudential Malaysia has confirmed that two of its subsidiaries, Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad (PAMB), and Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN) have suffered data breaches as a result of the MOVEit cyberattack.
Joining the global list of affected companies and entities which include multinational companies and even governments, Prudential admits that the data of customers and personal agents are likely compromised. This data includes names, contact numbers, IC details, and even bank account and/or partial credit card information.
As a result, Prudential Malaysia has urged its customers and agents to safeguard themselves and be vigilant for any signs of suspicious activity involving their bank accounts and transactions in the near future.
To mitigate the issue, Prudential has assured its customers and stakeholders in its written statement that immediate steps had been taken as soon as they were aware of the breach. The insurance giant moved quickly to isolate the affected server and activated its incident response team for immediate action and investigation into the matter. The relevant authorities have also been notified on the matter.
For those unaware, “MOVEit” is a file transfer software that is used by many organisations around the world. A zero day exploit/vulnerability was identified and used by the notorious Russian ransomware group “Clop” for the attacks. Some of the victims of the attack include BBC, British Airways, and Ernst & Young.
Prudential has set up dedicated hotlines for further support and they are reachable at 03-2771 2480 for PAMB and 03-2742 4060 for PruBSN.
