Proton launches Proton Capital, its own financing arm for buying a new car

Proton now has another financing option for customers looking to buy one of its cars. The carmaker has launched its own financing company, Proton Capital, giving eligible customers an additional way to finance the purchase of a new Proton.
Rather than replacing existing financing options from banks and other financial institutions, Proton Capital is designed to complement them. By focusing specifically on Proton vehicles and working closely with authorised Proton dealers, the company aims to provide a more integrated financing experience from application through to vehicle delivery.
For now, Proton Capital is available to eligible individuals purchasing new Proton vehicles through 12 participating outlets in the Klang Valley. Applicants can include salaried employees, self-employed individuals and customers with other verifiable sources of income.

At launch, Proton Capital will offer conventional hire-purchase financing for new Proton vehicles, including a standard fixed-rate package and a dedicated package for the Proton S70 taxi. The company is also targeting early November to introduce a Shariah-compliant financing option, subject to product availability and applicable terms and conditions.
More financing options are expected to be introduced progressively, including packages designed for e-hailing customers. Each application will be assessed individually based on factors such as income, existing financial commitments, credit information and repayment affordability. For complete applications, Proton Capital aims to provide an initial decision within one working day.

Zhang Qiang, Chairman of Proton Capital, said having a dedicated financing company will allow Proton to work more closely with its dealers and respond more effectively to customers’ needs.
“The establishment of Proton Capital adds an important capability to PROTON’s business model. Financing plays a major role in the vehicle-purchase journey, and having a dedicated financing company allows us to work more closely with our dealers and respond more effectively to customers’ needs” – Zhang Qiang, Chairman of Proton Capital
The launch of Proton Capital also supports Proton’s broader growth plans. Following the expansion of its vehicle lineup, including the introduction of its e.MAS electric vehicles, Proton is targeting 200,000 vehicle sales this year. Having its own financing arm gives the company another way to support that target while providing eligible customers with an additional financing option.
