PC Game Pass subscription fee lowered in Malaysia

Microsoft has announced that they’re lowering the prices of their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass video game subscription service. This change seems to be global, as PC Game Pass in Malaysia is also now cheaper, going from RM25/month down to RM20/month.

In the US meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has gone from USD29.99/month to USD22.99/month, while PC Game Pass is down to USD13.99/month from USD16.49/month. The price drop is in part down to Microsoft’s decision to no longer bundle future Call of Duty titles into the two subscriptions, though current Call of Duty titles already in the services will remain for now.

“Beginning this year, future Call of Duty titles won’t join Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. New Call of Duty games will be added to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass during the following holiday season (about a year later), while existing Call of Duty titles already in the library will continue to be available,” – Microsoft

New Xbox chief Asha Sharma also added that Game Pass Ultimate has become too expensive for most players, and that they’ll keep learning and adapting their Game Pass service to better match what matters to players.

Indeed, Microsoft’s previous price hikes for Game Pass was due to the decision to add Call of Duty into the subscription platform in the first place, with the price hike meant to balance out the loss of Call of Duty sales; Call of Duty is published by Activision Blizzard, which in turn is owned by Microsoft.

It seems that the move to hike Game Pass prices to entice Call of Duty players has backfired, but Microsoft is at least now acknowledging the error, and making access to an admittedly large game library cheaper again.
