Nothing Phone (2a) receives global launch; Priced at RM1,699 in Malaysia
The Nothing Phone (2a) has officially received its global launch and is set to be available in Malaysia in the coming week. The Phone (2a) is built as a toned-down version of Nothing’s flagship Phone (2), and is priced significantly cheaper as well.
The brand has confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2a) will come in a single 12GB+256GB variant, with an official retail price of RM1,699.
Pre-orders will start on 6th March at Nothing retail partners; after which the device will be made publicly available on 9th March at selected retail partners, as well as on the brand’s official store on Shopee and Lazada.
Nothing teased the design of the Phone (2a) in the run-up to the launch, but we finally get a full view of the device now. Its most standout aesthetic feature is undoubtedly the vertically arranged dual cameras, placed seemingly to resemble eyes. On that note, the dual cameras consist of a 50MP main lens and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. As for the front camera, the Phone (2a) keeps to a 32MP selfie shooter.
The Glyph Interface on the rear panel remains, albeit at a much scaled down manner. The LED zones are now only at the top half panel. and consists of only three light stripes that encircle the pair of eyes (aka the dual camera setup). The Glyph Interface can still be used as a timer and progress bar, and will light up according to other functions such as when you receive notifications, turn the volume up/down, and more.
Down to the nitty gritty, the Phone (2a) utilizes the Dimensity 7200 processor which they say was exclusively co-engineered with MediaTek to deliver best performance. As mentioned, you’ll have 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage; although the former can be extended another 8GB via RAM Booster technology.
For displays, the Phone (2a) sports a 6.7″ AMOLED panel with maximum 120Hz refresh rates and 1,300nits peak brightness.
The device packs a 5,000mAh battery supporting 45W wired fast charging. Other noteworthy mentions include stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor, an IP54-rated dust and water resistance. When it comes to connectivity, it supports up to Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3.
The Nothing Phone (2a) will comes with the latest Android 14 out of the box, following that is 3 years of software updates and 4 years of security patches.
As for colourways, you’ll have the choice of either Milk, or Black.
