Nintendo just surprise announced a new Star Fox game

By Raymond Saw May 8, 2026

If you’re a diehard Nintendo fan with some grey hair on the sides, the name Star Fox might be familiar to you. The action shooter franchise hasn’t seen a new title in nearly a decade now, but then we saw the game’s main star Fox McCloud make a surprise cameo in the recent Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Turns out, that’s because we’re getting a new Star Fox game, in 2026.

Launching on 25 June for the Switch 2, the new Star Fox game was showcased at the the latest Nintendo Direct, with the Japanese giant stating that it’s based on the classic Star Fox 64 game. It doesn’t appear to be a completely new game though, with Star Fox seeming a modern remake of the classic title, with similar levels but redesigned and modern looking graphics.

The characters themselves, from Fox to Slippy Toad all look realistic, and at times perhaps even a little too realistic. But if you like how they look then you’re in luck, as you’ll be able to transform yourself (or rather, your avatar) into one of the game’s characters. This will be best used when you’re taking part in online multiplayer, a new addition to the game.

Other new features include extra challenges, support for mouse controls when flying, as well as split controls when sharing Joy Cons. If you want to kick it old school however, the new Star Fox game will also support a Nintendo 64 controller.

As mentioned earlier, Star Fox launches on 25 June and will be available for USD49.99 from the Nintendo eShop, or if you’re using the local store RM205.50.
