New Apple Pencil models set for 2027 release, possibly with replaceable batteries

Apple could be preparing two new Apple Pencil models for launch next year, with the updated styluses expected to arrive alongside new iPad Pro models in the first half of 2027.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on two new Apple Pencil models with one aimed at replacing the entry level Apple Pencil introduced a couple of years ago, while the other is expected to be an updated version of the Apple Pencil Pro.
The first model, codenamed B582, is said to be a refreshed version of the current entry-level Apple Pencil, which launched in 2023 with USB-C charging. The second model, codenamed B632, is expected to be a successor to the Apple Pencil Pro that debuted in 2024 alongside the M4 iPad Pro.

Apple typically introduces new Apple Pencil models together with updated iPads, so the timing of these launches would not come as a surprise. The new styluses are expected to arrive around the same period as other upcoming Apple products, including refreshed Mac models and new iPad Pro devices.
One major change that could be coming to the new Apple Pencil lineup is a redesigned battery system. Apple is reportedly working on ways to comply with upcoming European Union regulations that require the batteries to be easily replaced.
Current Apple Pencil models are difficult to repair as they use heavily glued components, making battery replacements almost impossible without damaging the device. As iFixit puts it, all Apple Pencils have been ‘repairability fails’, with the lack of replaceable batteries the biggest problem in them.
If Apple does introduce a more repair-friendly design, it could make future Apple Pencil models easier to maintain and extend their usable lifespan.
