Microsoft wants to make Windows 11 run better for PCs with 8GB of RAM

Microsoft has updated its users on its efforts to improve and debloat Windows 11, with several changes currently being tested by Windows Insiders expected to roll out to more users later this year.

The company first announced its Windows quality push in March, focusing on three areas: performance, reliability and creating a better overall user experience. Since then, Microsoft says it has been working on improvements to File Explorer, the taskbar, Windows Search, updates and system performance.

Microsoft isn’t done though, and is now pushing through more changes to improve Windows 11. And according to Microsoft’s Executive Vice President for Windows and Devices Pavan Davuluri, the first main step is to improve memory optimisation for users with 8GB of memory.

Perhaps acknowledging the memory shortage caused by their aggressive push for AI, more and more users these days remain on 8GB and 16GB of memory. Microsoft claims that they’ll be working towards reducing Windows’ memory footprint for a faster and more responsive user experience.

On top of that, Microsoft will focus on the overall onboarding and out-of-the-box experience too, as they try to deliver a faster and more efficient onboarding experience. That’s on top of better and more useful parental controls for families, along with tweaks to voice control to make it more natural and fluid across apps.

The company says these updates will continue rolling out throughout 2026—first for Insiders before the general public—so you can expect to see these improvements by the end of the year.
