Maybank upgrades MAE Malware Shielding to detect more security risks

Maybank is rolling out an enhanced version of its Malware Shielding feature on the MAE app, which can now detect a wider range of potential security risks on users’ devices. As part of the update, MAE users will also be required to review and agree to a new set of Malware Shielding Terms & Conditions before they can continue using the app

The upgraded feature started rolling out progressively on 26 September 2026 with MAE app version 0.9.51, so don’t be surprised if the update hasn’t reached your phone just yet. Once updated, you’ll be prompted to review and agree to the new terms before you can continue using the app. By tapping ‘Agree’, you’re acknowledging that Malware Shielding will check your device for potential malware and risky security settings every time you launch MAE.

So what exactly is it looking out for? According to Maybank, Malware Shielding can detect malicious apps that may intercept authentication codes, remotely control your device or steal banking credentials. It also checks for unsafe device configurations, including Developer Mode, rooted or jailbroken devices, emulators and cloned environments.

The feature can also detect active screen sharing, recording, mirroring and overlay apps, as well as VPN services and untrusted keyboard apps. On top of that, it checks whether the MAE app itself has been modified or tampered with.

As for privacy, Maybank says Malware Shielding does not access, collect, process or store any personal information from the apps installed on your device. The bank also says your banking information and personal data remain confidential and protected.
