Going on holiday? Maybank now supports Cross-border QR Payment on the MAE app
Travelling just got way easier for Maybank users now that the MAE app supports Cross-border DuitNow QR payment. The new feature allows travellers to perform payments simply by scanning the local QR code whenever they are abroad.
For now, Cross-border QR payment is available when you travel to Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Do note that this feature is not applicable to all types of QR payments. Depending on the country, you will have to look out for selected QR code services that supports MAE’s Cross-border QR payment.
As of now, NETS QR will be your go-to if you are in Singapore, PromptPay if you are in Thailand, and QRIS if you are in Indonesia.
Making a cross-border payment is easy, as it’s pretty much the same steps as when you make a QR payment here in Malaysia. It will even show you the amount deductible in MYR after you key in the payment in foreign currency.
Below are the steps listed on Maybank’s Cross-border DuitNow QR page.
- Launch your MAE app and tap on the QR logo
- Scan the overseas merchant’s QR code displayed
- Key in payable amount in foreign currency
- Payment confirmation. Note that the Ringgit amount deductible is also displayed
- Authorise your payment if it is more than RM250
- Payment acknowledgment. Inform the merchant that payment has been completed
Keep in mind that you will have a daily transaction limit of RM1,000 or its equivalent in foreign currency. However, you may choose to lower the limit via the MAE app to suit your preference.
