Live streaming app Bigo Live partners with Kechara Soup Kitchen, raises RM10,000

Bigo Live, the live streaming platform, recently teamed up with local NGO and food bank Kechara Soup Kitchen for a Hari Raya-themed charity initiative. Dubbed ‘Rise & Raise’, the campaign saw 20 of Bigo Live’s top livestreamers take part in on-ground welfare pack distributions as well as an online fundraising drive on Bigo Live, which raised RM10,000 for Kechara Soup Kitchen.

Kechara Soup Kitchen, for those out of the loop, is one of Malaysia’s most prominent food banks and soup kitchens. Established in 2008, it provides food, aid and medical care to the homeless and urban poor. The Rise & Raise campaign allowed Kechara to deliver more hot meals during the Ramadan and Raya month for those in need.

Bigo Live first started the campaign during Ramadan by hosting a number of charity livestreams starring their creators, with viewers contributing by sending Ramadan-themed virtual gifts. A portion of the proceeds from these gifts then went towards Kechara Soup Kitchen, which was used for various initiatives such as hot meal distribution and food bank logistics.

On top of the digital fundraising livestreams, Bigo Live employees and 20 of their creators also joined Kechara Soup Kitchen on the ground, helping to prepare meals and distrubute them across seven areas in Kuala Lumpur. They also visited the Medan Tuanku Homeless Centre in Kuala Lumpur to pass food to the homeless there.
