Display

The first obvious take is the difference in size. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max parallels the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in display size. Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro carries a 6.1″ display, while the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max are each 6.7″. All of the iPhone 14 models have Super Retina XDR displays.

What you will have on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max – which is NOT present in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus – is ProMotion. Apple reserved the 120Hz adaptive refresh rates for the premium models, giving it better battery performance since your iPhone won’t be chugging 120Hz refresh rates on apps that don’t require that full range.

Another feature that’s exclusive on the Pro models is Apple’s new Dynamic Island. Apple has replaced the notch on the iPhone with a morphable multipurpose bar at the top of the display. The Dynamic Island, which also houses the Face ID sensor and TrueDepth camera, will display notifications, phone calls, music, and several other functions without you needing to exit your apps.

Processor

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are bestowed with Apple’s cutting edge A16 Bionic chip. It succeeds the A15 Bionic, which continues to make its mark in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

The new chip holds 2 high-performance cores that utilizes 20% lower power despite it being the fastest mobile CPU. The 5-core GPU on the other hand loads up 50% more memory bandwidth. According to Apple, the A16 Bionic is the “fastest chip ever in a smartphone” and is “40% faster than the competition.”

Apple always claims superiority when it comes to chipsets, and many would agree. This seems to be no different. Early benchmarks have already impressed, with the A16 Bionic showing 28% GPU performance boost over the A15 Bionic. Further test on the A16 Bionic will surely be done in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out on the scores! Though we’re confident enough to say you’re in good hands with the A16 Bionic.

Main Camera and TrueDepth Camera

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have the exact triple camera setup, so you don’t have to worry about compromising on this aspect when deciding between the two.

The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max now carries bigger arsenal in the form of the 48MP (f/1.78) Main camera. This is an upgrade from the 12MP cameras found in previous Pro and Pro Max models. The main cameras also has with it 2nd-gen sensor-shift Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

The 12MP (f/2.2) Ultra Wide camera is essentially the same, maintaining its 120° field of view from previous models. Telephoto camera remains at 12MP, and 2nd-gen sensor-shift OIS is also present.

Apple has finally introduced ProRAW as a format option. Shooting in RAW format simply means you have advanced post-processing flexibility in your edits. Just FYI, most if not all professional photographers shoot in RAW, so this will appeal to the shutterbugs.

It’s been a long time coming, but the 12MP TrueDepth front camera finally comes with autofocus! The aperture is also slightly larger at f/1.9, as compared to f/2.2 on the iPhone 13 Pro.

Battery

By virtue of its size, the iPhone 14 Pro has a smaller battery capacity at 3200mAh, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has the bigger 4324mAh battery.

Apple has enjoyed success in battery life over the years, and this year seems no different. On Apple’s website, iPhone 14 Pro have 23 hours of video playback and 75 hours of audio playback. On the iPhone 14 Pro Max, you’ll have 29 hours of video playback, and 95 hours of audio playback. Battery tests have yet to be conducted on these models though, so we’ll have to wait and see.

You can charge up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 20W adapter (not included). Both the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have 15W Wireless MagSafe charging.
