Huawei teases wide-body Pura X Max foldable

By Raymond Saw April 14, 2026

Huawei hasn’t been one to shy away from trying new things in the foldable scene, and their upcoming foldable looks set to shake things up again. This time around, the Chinese giant has begun teasing the Huawei Pura X Max, beating Apple to the punch with its wide-body layout.

Wide-body, landscape style foldables seem to be the next big trend, with the upcoming iPhone Fold leaked plenty of times by now. The Huawei Pura X Max though is the first real device confirmed to come with this form factor, shifting away from the current fad of square-style foldables. In fact, the Pura X Max looks to be so wide when unfolded that Huawei’s early photos even shows people using it in both portrait and landscape mode.

If the Pura X Max naming scheme sounds familliar to you, that’s because last year Huawei launched the Pura X in China. It was advertised as a flip phone flipped 90 degrees, with the hinge on the left of the cover screen, opening up to a display that you flip around. The Pura X Max however looks like a much more balanced take, similar to some early-generation bookstyle foldables like the Pixel Fold.

There’s been no other details just yet about what the Pura X Max will offer in terms of hardware, other than that it carries over the same triple rear camera design as that of the original Pura X, along with a textured finish on the back.

If anything, it shows that Huawei isn’t just copying leaks of the iPhone Fold or the rumoured Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide. This seems more like a refinement of the original Pura X, and Huawei themselves have probably long thought of a wide-body foldable just like its rivals.

The Huawei Pura X Max will officially be unveiled in China on 20 April, so we won’t have to wait too long to find out more about it. Stay tuned for more information when it happens.
