Honor X9e Pro takes on four military-inspired challenges to show off its toughness

Honor Malaysia isn’t being gentle with the X9e Pro. In its latest commercial series, the company put the smartphone through four challenges inspired by military training, subjecting it to drops, mud and prolonged time underwater to show off its durability.
The first challenge is set in the jungle, where the X9e Pro takes a hard drop onto a rock before falling into water. Then, in what’s probably the most memorable moment of the series, the phone is used to crack open a coconut. According to Honor, it came out of all of this still working.

Of course, you’re unlikely to be opening coconuts with your phone any time soon. What Honor is really trying to highlight here is its Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Technology 4.0, which it says allows the X9e Pro to survive drops of up to 3 metres while reducing screen damage by up to 82%. The phone has also received SGS 5-Star Certification for Drop Resistance in Harsh Conditions.
Next up is a precision shooting challenge, with the X9e Pro placed among the targets. This one is meant to show off the phone’s display structure, which uses a high-strength adhesive that Honor claims offers around 10 times the bonding strength to keep the screen in place under impact. The company says this adds another 0.5 metres to the phone’s overall drop resistance.

The third challenge is a military-style obstacle course, where the phone is carried alongside participants as they climb and crawl through the course. Along the way, it takes another drop onto a hard surface and ends up covered in mud, but Honor says it remained fully functional.
Finally, the X9e Pro was put underwater for a five-minute endurance challenge, where participants had to free their hands, carry a 6kg dumbbell through the water and retrieve the submerged phone before time ran out. The X9e Pro itself served as the countdown timer throughout.

That’s thanks to its IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, along with what Honor calls a submarine-inspired multi-compartment structure. The company says the phone can withstand being submerged at depths of up to 10 metres, which should be more than enough for getting caught in the rain or dropping it in a puddle.
